Green Valley Arizona, one of the nation's best retirement communities just 25 miles south of Tucson, Arizona. Green Valley occupies what was once part of the Spanish land grant given to New Spain by the Spanish crown in the late 16th century. The Gadsden Purchase in 1854 brought the southern portion of the Arizona Territory into the United States. February 14, 1912 Arizona became the 48th state.
The first Green Valley Arizona homes were built in the mid 1960's and comprised of approximately 1,000 small apartment Villas located along La Canada south of Esperanza Blvd. These apartment Villas initially served as housing for the laborers building of the first homes and townhomes in Green Valley. In the late 60s Green Valley received designation for a retirement community concept which was based on an amendment to the Fair Housing Act to provide financing of housing for the elderly.
After 40 years of steady growth, Green Valley Arizona now straddles I-19 from Duval Mine Road to Canoa Road. Green Valley Arizona offers a variety of homes ranging from small Villas, townhomes and free-standing homes. Most areas are age-restricted, with at least one occupant required to be 55 years or better. Some Non-age restricted areas in the Green Valley area include: Casa De Abrego, Villa Santa Rita, The Acres, Madera Reserve, Madera Foothills and Pasadera.
Most (age restricted) Green Valley neighborhood subdivisions have access to Green Valley Recreation facilities. Green Valley Recreation has over 60 clubs for those interested in arts & crafts, cards and games, dance and sports. Composed of six major recreation facilities and six neighborhood/satellite centers, Green Valley Recreation offers a wide variety of activities that will more than fill your available hours.
Desert Sky Cinema offers first run and classic movies, Green Valley Lanes hosts league and open bowling, the Santa Cruz National Forest offers numerous hiking and biking trails, and several fishing lakes are a short drive away. One of the Southwest's best birding spots is easily assessable at Madera Canyon. Golfing is available at numerous local public and private golf courses ranging from traditional wide layouts to tournament quality greens.
The Green Valley Area has a population of about 30,000 and is served by several shopping centers and retail centers. There are over 350 businesses and services including two major supermarkets, three major drug stores, discount department stores, apparel stores, restaurants and other specialty stores. Tucson International Airport is a quick 20 minute drive away with door-to-door shuttle service available. Many religious denominations offer services in Green Valley and Sahuarita.

All about Sahuarita AZ
One of the fastest growing communities in Arizona; Sahuarita is immediately north of the age-restricted community of Green Valley. Incorporated in 1994, the name Sahuarita translates from Spanish to "little saguaro." After many years of planning, the master planned community Rancho Sahuarita welcomes families to several neighborhoods of new homes with varying home sizes, features and lot sizes. Amenities at Rancho Sahuarita include a 10 acre freshwater lake, Club House with a swimming pool, recreation center and community-use rooms. Also included in the 2,810 acre master planned community are several neighbor hood playgrounds, walking trails and bike paths.
